"Clothes for Skills" Program Launched: HMS Plans to Conduct Youth Sorting Training for Second-hand Apparel, Shoes, and Bags in Guangdong, China

July 8, 2025 · Huanmao Frontline Express

HMS plans to launch the "Textile to Tech" training program in Guangdong, China. In some communities, children and adolescents who collect 10kg of used textiles can participate in a free "Second-hand Textile Appraiser" training course organized by HMS. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive an electronic certificate. Children holding this certificate will have priority in signing up to become inspection officers on the HMS platform in the future. The project aims to help more children and adolescents gain a deeper understanding of the market value and environmental significance of recyclable second-hand clothing and used textiles.

HMS's "Textile to Tech" training program has created a unique triangle model of "Children's Environmental Education - Community Practice Activities - Community Second-hand Recycling": second-hand clothing that is appraised as qualified by the participating children on the spot will be sold to the international market through the HMS independent station, while defective used textiles will be sent to partner factories at home and abroad for the production of thermal insulation building materials. The "Textile to Tech" training program not only allows participating children to understand how second-hand clothing, shoes, and bags can re-enter the market and be recycled by consumers, but also helps them enhance their environmental awareness.

"We strive to let the market see the value of regeneration and promote the concept of circular economy. 'Textile to Tech' is a very interesting community activity," said Alex, the operations manager of HMS. "HMS is very willing to share this model with more second-hand goods trading companies or renewable resource factories, so that we can jointly promote the popularization of the 'circular economy concept'. In 2027, HMS will replicate this model in some parts of Southeast Asia or Africa, which will require the support and participation of local communities to jointly organize such meaningful activities."
